TRADITION TAKES A TWIST
Once traditional bridal wear takes that twist—no matter how daring or subtle—the look becomes unique and individual, unlike any other. Yours distinctively. This series offers several styles, ranging from classic to romantic. If you can find the twist, you can certainly put together your own version. Let's go . . . .
Header Photo: The DEVONAH gown is a classic evening gown silhouette in lace velvet. It's the five-and-a-half-yard cut of continuous silk chiffon scarf-veil that adds the twist. Above: Dots! And lots of them. VICTORIA is romantic with hand-rolled florals gracing the shoulders and sleeves. The twist is that most of this gown, including the veil, is point d'esprit, small flocked dots all over flowing tulle.
Above: A BELLE of a ball gown. This creation in white silk taffeta is a bit Bel Époque and a bit Dior-esque, hinting at mid-century fashion. Below: DAISY. This bride in a classic A-line hourglass dress has nailed 1950s high fashion. She has ditched the veil in favor of a pillbox hat covered in Russian netting, creating a mini-veil.
Above: The twist here is that this is a floor-length version of the iconic MARILYN Dress. Designed by Travilla for Marilyn Monroe in The Seven Year Itch, its oh so lovely, and my clients love it. Not original on my part but so beautiful. Below: This classic evening gown silhouette is glammed to elegance, accessorized with a lace shrug bordered with lace-cutout flowers and a mocha-toned head pouf.
Above: ODETTE. An all tulle dress with an asymmetrical neckline bordered in Chantilly lace. The twist here is the slanting neck and the tulle head pouf, dappled with white rose petals. Below: A traditional A-line dress in medium-weight pongee is paired with a short organza veil, more opaque and a bit heavier than traditional tulle veiling.
