REAL WEDDING: MEGAN AND DOUG

Megan and Doug are Kansas City locals who met at work, where they both are cancer researchers. The wedding consisted of their close family and friends in the historic Pilgrim Chapel in Kansas City, Missouri. Afterwards they had a very decorated, upbeat party at a popular restaurant, Californos, in the heart of Westport. A very neat part of the day was when the groom proposed to the bride without an initial ring (with plans to pick one) but the bride hadn’t found one she liked so she wore a band instead until they found the perfect ring. Once found, Kaitlyn decided that she wouldn't wear the diamond ring until the wedding day and was adamant about not letting anyone see it until the unveiling at the ceremony. It was a wonderful twist on a tradition.

TODAY YOU'LL FIND ME . . . . .

Over on One Wed Blog where Time Traveling Bride continues.  Today we're chatting all about 1960s bride chic.  Did you know the big bouffant skirts of the early 1960s were about as far as you could get  fashionwise from the close of the era when everyone was embracing the mini-skirt and white Courrèges' boots?  Wonder how such a radical change in fashion ever happened and who the designers were who brought it about?  READ MORE . . .

RUSTIC COUNTRY SHOOT

I love combos featuring rustic design details mixed with elegance.  This shoot is another stunner by Alea Lovely concentrating on all those imaginative and charming elements we look for to make design and decor unique.  Said Alea about putting this all together," We shot on the Longview Mansion’s grounds that had a lot of rustic structures we could work with along with the great overgrown grass. With the vision I had to shoot it I just couldn’t find a dress that matched the feeling of what we were going for so I made the dress to capture thewhimsical direction we were headed for and used color in the dress inspired by the latest fashion trend of using color in bridal. The florist used her great-grandmother’s amazing pink antique depression glass as centerpieces and accents to the flowers and cake. The cake decorator used a brush-like texture on the buttercream to give it a nest-like look. The furniture rentals used were great rustic pieces like old wooden crates, old dress trunks, rusted keys and this great wide bottom over-sized chair that looks like it came straight from the set of Alice and Wonderland. The pergola was a great accent location in front of the water for something a little different.  . . . ."

SNEAK PEEK : ALICE PADRUL 2013

Here's a little preview of what Chicago-based designer Alice Padrul has in store for 2013.  For those of you who aren't familiar with Alice, one of her signature talents is incorporating incredible novelty-style laces in her pieces.   Her pieces are also light as air in look and feel--something I know a brides likes on her wedding day.  This collab with Photographer, Lidia Cordean (who took most of the photos) is breathtaking and downright gorgeous--the perfect eye candy the day after Christmas to get you dreaming of Spring . . . .

EVEN MORE WRAPPING UP

Above photos Allyson James

Just because it's the day before Christmas doesn't mean we've seen the last of The Ice Princess and winter wedding.  Not by a long shot.  Last week we looked at a few wraps for the winter bride.  Today we're zoning in on just about everything else you'll need on your wedding day or engagement party to keep warm and toasty . . . .

The Cape: Photo 1:  Covering your gown with a cape is ideal—they’re roomy which equals warm and won’t squish your dress. Add in the hood factor and you have a convertible headpiece.
The Muff: Photo 1 & 2/:Add a muff (maybe instead of a bouquet) and your hands stay toasty.
Stoles, Wraps and Shrugs: Photos 2,3,4 & 5/ Wraps and stoles are great for bare-armed brides. They may look skimpy and I thought so myself till my mother made me one to go out one New Year’s Eve. It was white velvet, lined inside with batting (stuff you put in quilts). I was incredibly warm all night. As for fur, faux is chic now and surprisingly warm too.
The Fur Hat: Bottom photos/Want to skip the veil or cage? Since hands and head are what you need to keep warm to stay warm, hats in fur or faux fur are incredibly heat conducive and a chic way to go!
Gloves: Add opera length gloves with a wrap or stole if you’re going sleeveless. Long gloves can be great substitutes for sleeves due to the insulation factor they provide.
