CHIC OF THE WEEK

I wanted to chat a little about the art of mixing laces and how it goes hand in hand with design inspiration. This ensemble, I call The Frida Kahlo is incorporated with laces that couldn't be more different yet they are beautifully in sync to create the overall chic.  I created the bolero out of a cotton kind of crocheted pattern and trimmed the edges of the sleeves and neckline with two different Venise laces.  The bodice is an intricately beaded Alencon lace topping off a full tulle skirt dappled with appliques cut from Chantilly lace.  This cotton lace used in the bolero reminded me of the sort of South American/Mexican woven laces found in cotton summer dresses and wraps.  Especially beautiful the way the sleeves look . . . .

A ROMANCE IN THE REDWOODS

Most of these lovely images originally ran in Love and Lavendar under the title, Natural Romance.  That was my working title till I realized for me it was more than that--it was a spectacular day we spent shooting under the redwoods.  Deer Park Villa in Fairfax, California, was a place I'll never forget. Two photographers, Lara Onac and Amanda Aceves have been wanting to do a project like this since their days in photography school.  Both shooters were a joy to work with as were all the talented Bay Area vendors--Maria of Studio Wildflower and hair and makeup artist extraordinaire, Taylor Gallanter who fashioned the bride to look so Gatsbyesque. Special thanks and kudos to Misha and Anna our real-life couple who got to have another wedding all to themselves this.  Anna said she loved her own wedding but confessed she didn't have the space to enjoy the most finite and detailed moments as she and Misha could with this private elopement style day they shared under the redwoods . . . .

SUNSET ON THE BEACH

I'm calling this peek of pics Sunset at the Beach.  Shot in Santa Cruz, wedding photographer Alix Mullins of Alix Art Photography is nothing short of superlative, making my VALERIE Dress blush against the sunset.  Special thanks to Lindsey our model and Amy West Floral for the stunning blooms and floral crown . . . .
