SMALL VEILS FOR FASHIONISTAS

A cascading point d'esprit flyaway veil, edged with satin ribbon.
The “fashionista” veil — short, chic, and undeniably modern — has quietly been trending over the past couple of decades. Once considered unusual outside semi-formal or courthouse weddings, these petite veils have now stepped confidently into every bridal style, boldly defying tradition. Vintage designers first resurrected them, and suddenly, there was something undeniably edgy about a bride wearing one. As early as the 1990s, short, pouf veils appeared alongside formal gowns — a daring juxtaposition that either showcased exquisite back details or simply introduced a fresh silhouette. Whatever the intent, the effect was pure editorial magic.

In my work, I often draw inspiration from these vintage poufs; they add a subtle nod to couture without overpowering a modern bridal silhouette. Short veils fall just above the shoulders, often gathered into a soft pouf that evokes vintage bridal fashion, combining playful volume with high fashion. Whether paired with a minimalist sheath or a more formal gown, this style adds instant personality without overwhelming the overall look. I’ve found that brides love the freedom these little veils give — They're lightweight and easy to manage,  stay perfectly in place whether you’re exchanging vows, cutting the cake, or dancing the night away. Modern takes range from delicate birdcage veils to structured poufs, offering endless ways to express personality while keeping the look chic and sophisticated. Trendy yet timeless, the short veil proves that a bride doesn’t need yards of fabric to make a statement — sometimes, less really is more.
