An interesting subject of bridal fashion has always been wearing your mother or grandmother's wedding dress. Sentiment as well as just plain loving the design are only a couple reasons. If you were thinking along these lines for your own wedding, enjoy today's eye candy. Magic Memory Works has captured Katie wearing her mother's dress--the combined laces so absolutely gorg. Said the photographer about this amazing session, "I photographed Katie's wedding in May 2014- and one of the requested shots by her and her mom was a picture of three wedding dresses- Katie's, Katie's mother and Katie's grandmother. No big deal, right? Only to find out that Katie really regrets spending money on her dress, because she just found out her mother's dress fits her perfectly and she would LOVE to have worn it instead! Well, I am all about dreams coming true- so I offered to create a styled bridal portrait session with her and her mom's dress later that year! Thanks to the amazing team who joined me on this- we were able to capture something magical and fun for Katie and her mom to enjoy for years to come. "
I initially created this space for my clients. Eventually brides looking for that touch of wow found their way here. Draping and playing with fabric started some twenty years back when I did a three-year stint as a bridal fabrics buyer. After that I opened Bridal Alternatives, a custom design studio and ever since have had the opportunity of working with brides who want that extraordinary one-of-a-kind dress. I'm in love with fashion history and re-invention of the past.
Other connections to fashion? I’ve been a columnist for San Francisco Art and Fashion News and have a weekly fashion buzz on One Wed Blog. I founded The Design Project of San Francisco, a networking organization of fashion professionals collaborating their skills and talents on projects. I’m currently working on a book called—you guessed it—'Bride Chic', all about that white gown and very special designer/client relationship. I live with my husband Edgar and Chihuahua Piccalina in Marin County California.
