THE WINTER BRIDE
I salute any bride who braves the brisk chill in the air to all-out sub-zero climes. Designing a collection of accessories for winter brides here in the sunny California wine country, I admit, was a challenge at first. While temperate here most of the year (yes, you can dine al fresco in December) I had to take into mind three hours Northeast lie the snow-covered mountains of beautiful Lake Tahoe, a destination many brides tie the knot come the holidays and winter months. This collection of little wintry things was designed a couple years back for the Ice Princess in you. It has remained timeless and classic — proving that keeping warm and staying chic aren't hard once you know how to work it. . . .
Go ahead and dream of looking like and keeping as warm as a Czarina. Did you know covering your gown with a cape is ideal? They’re roomy and not at all like close-fitting coats that squish your dress. The cape here is white suede with marabou and faux fur trim. The hat and muff are made of faux Mouton lamb. Since this is pretty much a custom collection consider this cape in velvet, cashmere, wool, heavy brocade--all fabrics that would make a lovely and original cape.
Make the most of accessories. Wraps and stoles go a long way for bare-armed brides. True, they may look skimpy but will keep you incredibly warm even if they are made out of faux fur. Here's a best kept secreat: Add opera length gloves if you’re going sleeveless. Long gloves can be great substitutes for sleeves due to the insulation factor they provide. I added this muff (maybe you can carry one instead of a bouquet) so your hands stay toasty.
