MoMA MEETS FASHION

One of my fondest childhood memories is sitting next to my mother when she read me art books, describing each painting by El Greco, Goya, Manet, and Rembrandt, to name just a few. An oil painter, Mom had a vast library. Coffee-table-sized volumes with art collections described humanity's ascent, featuring cave paintings up front, classics in between, and contemporary art on the back pages. While Mom couldn't always interpret what Pollock and Rothko were messaging, she encouraged me to think more about what those shapes, streaks, and figures blended with color meant to me.  No mystery, I became an artist. Now, my obsession with abstract art has made its way into my fashion world. Yes, I've always imagined the art gallery backdrop as an ideal setting for a wedding. But why this noisy modern stuff? And visually screaming behind delicate tulle and lace?  Well, like abstract art, it's a bit hard to define precisely why. All I can say is, it works for me. I love color and color combos. I painted and then photographed all these gemmies myself (including the models). Some are digitally enhanced for this post because, like my design sketches, I still draw like a seven-year-old on a sugar high. That aside, model brides stand, sit, and pose in front of these works as they might in an art gallery. An art gallery is one of my top-tier places to visit, right up there with walking paths alongside redwoods. Coming soon: a collection of dresses, kimonos, pants, and tops featuring prints inspired by these works of art. You can get a sneak peek at those images here.
