FASCINATING!

Fascinators are small hats attached to a headband or clip.  Sometimes they sport wisps of veiling over the eyes as well as shots of tulle or netting at the crown. A great alternative to ditching the traditional veil, they lend themselves well to brides who want to embrace their inner chic factor.  For those of you wanting to go both ways--do it! Be bold, you certainly can wear a short or long veil poufing its way out of a fascinator. . . .

CHIC OF THE WEEK

The TIFFANY Dress is one of my absolute faves and I loved designing it because of its pure simplicity. Inspired by icons Audrey, Jackie and Grace, the fabric is a light tissue type taffeta. While we paired it up with a pillbox hat covered in a swathe of Russian netting, this dress is versatile enough to be matched with a long tulle veil. The bouffant skirt is shaped with a full crinoline petticoat underneath but light enough to maneuver around in on a busy wedding day. Covered buttons line down the back. This dress can also be made as separates. Yes, the scoop neck top can tuck into the skirt or be worn overlapping it. Available in white or ivory.

HE LOVES ME!

Okay, I might be a tad bit early here with daisies but if you're perchance planning a summer wedding I promise it will inspire.  And, it might just get you thinking about a Summer of Love or Field of Daises theme.  For me  Daisies evoke youth, sunlight and whimsy.  The daisy was prominent in 1960s fashion and became one of the the symbols of peace and love . . . .

IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE TULLE

If you love the look of veiling but want to go for something other than traditional tulle by all means do so.  Gorgeous, yes, tulle aka illusion is the most widely used material designers go for when creating the look that tops you off on your wedding day.  Looking into  the varied fabrics take into mind most veiling materials are light and either drape or have that lightweight loft that poufs on certain veils There are similar fabrics denser as well as more open in the way of netting or weave that create a whole different 'veiled' look.  Here are a few options:
SILK GAUZE OR CHIFFON- Go for single layer veils in gauze or chiffon. The reason is most chiffons are opaque and the yardage has a certain drape and spread to it that's ideal for longer veils like the beauty above that is tacked to the back of the bride's hair . . . .By special order through Amy-Jo Tatum

CUT VELVET is backed on drapey chiffon creating a drape extension from a toque wrapped in the same fabric.

LACE--Seriously, let's look at some lace.  Did you know that between the motifs and floral patterns of lace lies a soft netting base like that of tulle?  An allover lace veil will work as either a mantilla or a wrap of lace fashioned into a type of cloche veil like the one above as long as it is fairly light weight.  By special order throughAmy-Jo Tatum

FRENCH AND RUSSIAN NETTING--Both have larger holes producing a wider netting but French netting is softer to the touch. Pictured above is Russian netting which is a stiffer version. Though used mostly for shortie veils, I've seen it pieced in length to create longer versions

(only comes 9 and 18" wide)

ORGANZA-Lightweight but loftier opaque fabric ideal for veils.  Works best as a single layer, especially embroidered organza. The above photo shows a poufed organza veil . . . .

SIXTEEN CANDLES INSPIRED SHOOT

From SLF Wedding comes this truly incredible shoot for the young at heart, Sixteen Candles, inspired by the 1984 movie with Molly Ringwald.  This shows the minimalist and/or fuss free brides and grooms out there that maybe less can be more. With a few beautifully appointed pieces of decor and lots of love to share, your wedding can score big on elegance . . . . .

From SLF: The most important piece for me about this shoot was the people. Not the flowers, the cake, the pretty details. Not the “models.” The two genuine, lively and giddy-in-love individuals we chose to tell our story. Though the details surrounding them are gorgeous, the lovers make the scene. Bryon put the idea of a ’16 Candles’ Inspired Shoot into my head. The table, the birthday cake, the candles. And this vision of a romantic and youthful little love scene that could actually leave a feeling with its viewers, the way a good film does, had me immediately excited.I worked on planning the shoot that day. Bryon and I are creative commercial filmmaking and wedding cinematographers. We are also professional wedding photographers. It was, and is always, our goal to tell a story and to inspire a feeling. Not just to have you swooning over the pretty details. But to connect you to real people. To give you butterflies. To give ourselves butterflies. To make you cry. To make ourselves cry. This is the first styled shoot Bryon and I have directed ourselves and we did it in passion of real people and the feelings we share with them. A little story of early love. A little dream of young romance and that perfect first kiss, long-awaited. And inspired by that memorable last scene of the 1984 film ‘Sixteen Candles.’ We created our own unique tribute to the scene, with a gorgeous piece of music composed by Tommy Leinonen. We are thankful for all of the amazing and gifted people who had a part in bringing this vision of romance and beauty to life.

METRO CHIC

It's been a couple years since I've posted about one of my absolute favorite topics, the city chic bride and her wedding.  Now seems the appropriate time since we're gearing u to wedding season. Some weddings  go metro which means you'll need to amp up the chi-chi factor some. Whether it’s a big formal bash or small restaurant gathering, the city look is always elegant.
