THE LIGHTWEIGHTS: A CLOSER LOOK AT SHEER FABRICS

What could be more feminine on a bride than lightweight, sheer fabrics. They have an airy, wispy look and feel that sets a light tone. While we're looking towards Winter, I know a lot of you are contemplating Spring weddings. Take a look at some of these gowns.

Silk chiffon gown with chifon and lace train.
Chiffon-Lightweight and transparent, the delicacy of this fabric makes it best for billowing sleeves, cowl draped necklines, ruffles, ruched bodices and long, airy trains. See-through dresses worn over slips can be made of chiffon. Full skirts in chiffon are ethereal and can be layered.
Gown with detachable organza train dappled with rose petals

Organza-Shown above and below, organza is a light, springy and transparent fabric. Once considered suitable only for summer, organza is now year-round and widely used in gowns requiring full skirts, A-lines, trains, veils, drapes and overlays.

All over embroidered organza dress with full skirt

Full overskirt of tulle
Tulle-Fine mesh netting with hexagonal pattern that comes in silk or nylon. Tulle is standard material for bridal veils. Also used in bouffant skirts like the one pictured above, proffering that ballerina look Vera Wang popularized a few years back. While the big tulle skirt is classic, edgier versions of late suggest special effects like draping, rouching and pick-up treatments over more modified skirt silhouettes. Not to be overlooked for trains done in layers.

A ROYAL WEDDING

Meet Claire Lademacher, Europe's newest princess!  Last Saturday she became Princess Claire of Luxembourg when she married Prince Felix.  In a jaw-dropping gown of silver-threaded lace by Elie Saab she wowed the crowds.  In the true European tradition, the wedding party was made up of children. Bride Chic's fave kids wear designer, Stephanie Staub of Little Eglantine designed the wedding party costumes.  “Creating the bridal party outfits for Claire Lademacher has been a real pleasure; she is so sweet and kind”, remembers Stephanie Staub. “Claire wished for simple children outfits, in soft shades."
“I feel very honored to have had the opportunity of creating the children's outfits for the royal wedding”, Stephanie said. “I hope that the children enjoyed wearing their garments as much as I enjoyed making them.”

LOVE BLOSSOMS

I've waited just about all year long to bring you these images from one of my fave wedding and fashion shooters, Ari aka AK Sandhu who just happened to model for me way back when (see Le Jardin Collection).  These days you'll find Ari on the other side of the camera traveling all over the world where she captures  images of of what she calls her amazing life.  Yes, she gets to do destination weddings just about everywhere--and yes, they are in drop dead gorgeous locales with beautiful people.  Last February Ari fluttered through the San Francisco Bay Area to do this shoot centered around cherry blossoms. Be sure to watch the video below taken at The Basrai Cherry Farm in Central California.  It features my blushing Sabrina gown at it's best because lovely Sarah dances in it . . . . .

IT WAS FASCINATION

Wisps of net, shots of tulle and all those fascinating little fascinators are just a few of your options for ditching the traditional veil on your wedding day.  Neither hats nor veils but maybe a little of both, I designed these for brides who want some sort of pouf or veiling while embracing her inner haute chic . . .

AUTUMN CASTLE SHOOT IN IRELAND

It isn't often images like these come up on my computer screen so when Hawaii based shooter Jenna Clark of Creatrix Photography sent these gems on I was drop dead, head over heels elated to say the least.  Teaming up with some top notch professionals on a trip to Ireland, Jenna chose the beautiful and rustic bakdrop of Kildare outside Dublin.  Some of the images were shot at Barberstown Castle, a landmark built in the 13th Century.  Says Jenna about the shoot: My biggest inspiration was the fact that it was in Ireland, which is one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited. I always tell everyone, "What you imagine it looks like in your head? It's that and more!" There were the kindest and happiest people, even though it was freezing! We wanted to focus on modern Irish weddings, without overdoing it. Most of all I wanted to capture the scenery and show people how amazing Ireland is!

GINA AND MICHAEL'S RANCH WEDDING

Gina and Michael chose shades of turquoise and lavender to blend in with the neutral backdrop of this rustic-chic wedding at D and D Ranch in Madera, California.  What caught my eye most here were all of the DIY touches so perfectly fused into the casual yet stylish ranch theme. A great, big thank you to Lisa Mallory Photography for capturing such incredible images of Gina and Michael's special day.  Says Lisa about shooting: "Michael and Gina's wedding was a classy, chic DIY affair. Gina and her mother worked for months pulling all the details together including their floral arrangements. While Gina and Michael both helped create the bridesmaid's bouquets, Gina credits her mom as the real rock star who designed the bridal bouquet."
